Labour has returned to power after fourteen years of Tory chaos and complacency. In a stunning landslide victory on 4th July 411 Labour candidates were elected to Parliament giving the new Government lead by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer a comfortable majority. His new government Cabinet – The Labour Party is now hard at work implementing Labour’s election manifesto Change – The Labour Party
In the Weald of Kent our candidate Lenny Rolles came a strong second in a contest that was always likely to favour Katy Lam the Tory candidate in their safest seat in Kent. See: Weald of Kent – General election results 2024 – BBC News. Lenny was determined to give Lam a real challenge and fought hard for every vote. He and our campaign team put up a spirited effort speaking to voters at street stalls, in hustings, and on doorsteps across the constituency. This was a significant achievement for a newly formed CLP such as ours covering a huge geographic area. The Weald of Kent CLP wishes to extend its gratitude to Lenny Rolles for his tireless efforts and to all our many supporters that helped during the election campaign.
#GE2024 was a brilliant day in Kent resulting in the election of 11 Labour MPs. See: Kent general election results: Labour gain nine seats from Conservatives and Lib Dems take Tunbridge Wells (kentonline.co.uk). A special highlight for many of us was the victory of Sojan Joseph in Ashford. Many of us know Sojan very well from our time in Ashford CLP and are thrilled that he has succeeded in ousting Damian Green and giving Ashford its first ever Labour MP. We are also delighted to be neighbours now to new Labour MPs Tony Vaughan in Folkestone and Hythe and Helena Dollimore in Hastings and Rye. Its great to have three Labour MPs on the border of the Weald of Kent.
