The Weald of Kent Labour Party is delighted to announce that Lenny Rolles has been selected to be the Labour candidate here in the General Election to be held on 4th July. Fresh from a strong performance in the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner election in May, Lenny is determined to give voters in the Weald of Kent a real choice and opportunity to end 14 years of Conservative chaos and complacency.

In accepting his candidacy Lenny said:

“The Weald of Kent is a beautiful part of our county but for too long voters here have been taken for granted by the Tories. On 4th July we have an opportunity to elect a Labour Government that will act on the priorities of people and rural communities in the Weald of Kent. We need a government that will tackle the cost of living crisis, restore our NHS, build affordable homes, repair our potholed roads, improve our bus and rail services, restore local policing, and support hard pressed farmers & small businesses. It is time for change in Britain and in the Weald of Kent too.”

Lenny Rolles was born and lives in Kent with his wife and daughter. For more than a decade he has served the community as a Councillor in Gravesham, chairing local partnerships and acting as a charity trustee. In May he stood in the Police and Crime Commissioner election campaigning strongly across Kent and significantly increasing Labour’s share of the vote. He opposed cuts to Kent’s police budget, put the spotlight on preventing violent crime, against women and girls, shopworkers, and on the need to restore confidence in trust in policing.

The Weald of Kent is a new constituency electing a Member of Parliament for the first time. It includes the towns of Cranbrook and Tenterden and over 80 villages. “I’m proud to be Labour’s candidate in this large rural constituency in the heart of the Garden of England. If elected I will champion rural issues that have been neglected for too long by a Tory Government that after 14 years has run out of ideas and run out of time”.
